ivan Version 3.2.6 Download
& Installation Instructions
These instruction
should be carried out after you have purchased ivan and been
provided with a link to download the installer.
Download "Ivan Installer.msi"
file
Either click on the link
which is displayed on the screen after purchasing ivan or
contained in the email sent to the address you entered when
purchasing.
Windows 10 will prompt you
with a question of whether you want to Save the file or run it.
In response to the Windows
question choose either to save the installer in a location
you can find it in later or choose to run the installer
immediately.
Make backup copies of existing ivan databases
Locate
your ivan database (see How
to find where your ivan data is stored).
Make
a backup copy of your ivan data (see Saving
an existing ivan database for use with a new ivan installation).
Install Version 3.2.6 of ivan
Open
the directory you saved the Ivan Installer
into.
Double
click the Ivan Installer icon.
The
Ivan Installer will automatically create an
icon called "ivan 3.26" on
your Desktop and also in the Start
Menu. This icon will open the Testdb database
that is installed with ivan by default.
Use the "Ivan Shortcut Maker" app installed
with ivan to create any additional icons you require for custom
databases that you have created.
(See ivan
Version 3.1 Features for a description
of makeicon.exe). If you have not created
any custom databases then skip this step.
Trouble Shooting
-
I have downloaded Ivan Installer but the icon
looks like this
and double clicking on it does
not install ivan.
The ivan installation makes use of the
Windows Installer components that are part of
modern Windows sytems. Windows 95,98 & NT4
do not include the Windows Installer component.
If you are using Windows 95, 98 or NT4 you
will need to download the Windows Installer
components from microsoft.
Here are links to the Windows Installer
components:
I have installed ivan and when I open it the schedules from my previous default installation are missing.
Previous versions of ivan placed the default
database in c:\ivanw\testdb.
This Version of ivan places the default
database in c:\Program Files\ivan\testdb.
There are two solutions:
-
Create a new icon that opens your old
database from c:\ivanw\testdb by
using the MakeIvanIcon.exe program.
-
Delete the new default database from
c:\Program Files\ivan\testdb
and replace it with the old database
c:\ivanw\testdb.
I have installed ivan on Windows 95 or
Windows 98 1st Edition and the resource and
dependency reports do not work.
The resource and dependency reports require
ODBC and the ODBC Desktop Drivers. These are
available in modern Windows systems
including Windows 98SE but are not included
in Windows 95 or Windows 98 1st Edition.
In order to use these reports on either
Windows 95 or Windows 98 1st Edition you
will need to install the Microsoft Data Access
Components (MDAC) and the ODBC Desktop Drivers
(included with Jet 4.0 SP8).
If you use Windows 98SE, Me, NT4.0, 2000 or
XP you will not need to install MDAC or the
ODBC Desktop drivers.
Here is a link to the lastest MDAC:
Here is a link to the latest ODBC Desktop
Drivers:
If you do not intend using the resource
or dependency reports you do not need the
ODBC updates. Or, if you intend you use the
reports much later you can download and
install the updates at a later stage. ivan
will work fine without the ODBC components.
